Program also exposes minority youth to business professionals and assist in identifying positive career and educational options.
Target Market High School students who demonstrate leadership talent, with a grade point average of C or better; but require additional motivational factors in their life.
Criteria
Academic Achievement: High school students with C average or above. The goal is balance – academic achievers mixed with lower academically performing students.
School Context: Urban public/parochial suburban, etc.
Grade Level and Years of Participation: 9th, 10th, 11th grade.

| Student Roles & Rules of Conduct & Build your reputation:
Lead:
Build Your Team Students will chose a leadership role (required) in developing the program (examples incl: newsletter, workshop development, mentor development, community service and social activities)
All monthly workshops are mandatory
LOT Participants must participate in a team project.
Execute:
Students drive the program! Teams paired with workshop chairs.
Assignments & team deliverables are your responsibility and are due on the prescribed dates
Dress is business casual. No jeans,hats, etc

Commitment:
Absenteeism will not be tolerated;
(3) Occurrences and you will be dismissed from program
Program Costs:
There are no fees associated with the program
Funding is made available through sponsors, grants and chapter funds

Programming Exposure
The NBMBAA Annual Conference and Exposition is a six-day event held annually in September/October. This premiere conference event brings together public and private sector executives from around the world. Students participate in workshops and social events.
The NBMBAA Case Competition is a 3-day evet held annually in June. This conference brings today teams (5 students) from each LOT chapter to compete for scholarship funds.
Monthly Workshops:
Opportunity for guest speakers from leadership in the Cleveland Area Diverse topics:
- Networking/Team Building - First Session of the year. This gives you the opportunity to build your teams. Motivational speaker, Derrick Pledger started the year off!
- Financial Literacy - Interactive session helping you develop the skill set to earn the things you want, the impact of credit, and making your money last
- Success Thinking - Panel discussion on the path of careers, demystifying the corporate workplace experience and surrounding yourself with friends/peers who will help you succeed.
- Presentation Skills - Discussion of common phobias with public speaking. An Ice Breaker session gave students the opportunity to present to everyone the topic the know most about…themselves.
- Time Management - Helping to think your way to an excellent life! Understand how you can plan an effective use of your time and meet your commitments.
- Business Etiquette/Networking - Developing skills to help you in new situations. How do you approach people? How do you shake their hand or ask for a business card? Most importantly, how do you develop long term relationships with people!
Mentors Build Relationships
Mentor Role: NBMBAA member – Contact 1x a month Mentee Role: Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Contact 1x a month
Each pairing of mentor / mentee will be different, however, roles and responsibilities of each are shown below:
Mentor Responsibilities Inform the mentee how things work in your career path. Offer guidance and direction on communication. Open the door for interface opportunities, i.e., lunches, meetings, brainstorming sessions, etc. Hold periodic informal meetings with mentee. Encourage candor and maintain confidentiality. Always provide feedback.
Mentee Responsibilities Be observant of preferences, habits, styles and behavior patterns Seek advice, direction, and opinions on all that is observed. Discuss what you have read or heard about other corporate cultures and then discuss with the mentor. Be responsible for developing your own sense of confidence and style during the learning process. Recognize that you have to take responsibility for your own growth and success. |
